Extract Audio From Many Popular Video File Formats Using Free Audio Extractor

Sometimes a user may want to extract audio from a video file for a variety of reasons. For example if it is a video lecture than it might be useful to only get the audio to listen and save some space on the HDD in the mean while. Similarly, someone might be interested in extracting the audio from a free music video to listen on a portable media gadget (i.e. iPod Touch). There are a number of options available out there, but one of the very nice software that I have come across is called Free Audio Extractor that allows to extract the audio from video files. A strong point is that it supports a large list of video formats including FLV, MP4, AVI, WMV, ASF, MOV etc. In addition, it also supports many audio formats for the conversion such as MP3, WMA, M4A, AAC, WAV and MP2 files.

A complete list of the supported formats is as follows:

  • FLV to Mp3, FLV to Wma, FLV To Ogg, FLV To WAV, FLV To Flac
  • Mp4 to AAC, MP4 to Mp3, MP4 to Wma, MP4 to WAV, MP4 to Ogg, MP4 to Flac
  • AVI to Mp3, AVI to Wma, AVI To Ogg, AVI To WAV, AVI To Flac
  • WMV to MP3, WMV to Ogg, WMV to WAV, WMV to Flac
  • MOV to AAC, MOV to Mp3, MOV to Wma, MOV to OGG, MOV to WAV, MOV to FLAC
  • M4A to AAC, M4A to MP3, M4A to Wma, M4A to OGG, M4A to WAV, M4A to FLAC
  • MP3 to MP3, MP3 to Wma, MP3 to OGG, MP3 to WAV, MP3 to FLAC
  • AAC to MP3, AAC to Wma, AAC to WAV, AAC to OGG, AAC to Flac

One of the key features is that you can selectively convert/extract a certain segment of the audio file instead of the whole file. In addition, to the simple process of processing a single file, you can also queue multiple files together and they will be processed for the audio extraction/conversion in a batch mode one after the other. Output audio format can also be customized from the options and variety of parameters can be setup such as the bitrate, frequency of audio sampling and quality.

Free Audio Extractor works with both 32bit and 64 bit versions of Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. Free Audio Extractor can be downloaded here.
