Sony has officially announced details regarding the new Xperia Play a.k.a Playstation Phone. It was first revealed at a trailer during Super Bowl XLV and today detailed specs were announced during the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona. So far here is what we know about this new device.
- Qualcomm’s 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
- Embedded Adreno 205 GPU
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread on Launch
- 400MB RAM
- 4 Inch LCD Display
- 5.1 megapixel flash camera
- GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, and Wi-Fi
The list of launch titles includes Assassin’s Creed, Guitar Heroes, Dead Space, Need for Speed, Millionaire City, Dungeon Defenders among many others. Also interestingly, the phone will come pre-loaded with a bunch of games including Asphalt Adrenaline 6, Bruce Lee, Star Battalion, The Sims 3, and Tetris. As we said before, it will be the first PlayStation Certified phone, allowing users to download games through the PlayStation suite app. This actually marks a new era in Android gaming, as future phones from other companies may also be able to take advantage of PlayStation Suite and offer this extended library of games. Xperia Play is set off for a Global release starting in March. It will be available in UK in April and will be offered through Verizon this coming Spring in US, although the exact release date is unknown at this time.
