We have seen all kinds of Kinect hacks ranging from playing Street Fighter IV on the PC to the controlling navigation of 3D CT Scan images by Surgeons. But all of these were after all Kinect hacks strictly speaking as Microsoft neither officially supported these novel uses of their technology nor released any official software take advantage of Kinect hardware using Windows computers. But now it seems the tables has turned and Microsoft has just announced they will release an official Windows’s SDK for Kinect this spring.
According to Microsoft, "It will be available this spring as a free download, and will give academic researchers and enthusiasts access to key pieces of the Kinect system-such as the audio technology, system application programming interfaces and direct control of the Kinect sensor itself."
Commercial licensing details are not yet available but will be made available later on.
