Apple iOS vs. RIM Blackberry vs. Android – Current State of the US Smartphone Market

According to Nielson research there are some important conclusions that can be drawn from the statistical analysis of the current US smartphone market. It seems that from the operating system perspective Android  is ahead with 29% market share ,while RIM Blackberry and Apple iOS are following closely behind with 27% share each. If we look from a perspective of device manufacturer RIM and Apple are big winner. This is obviously because both are the only ones making and selling the devices for their respective OS. Another interesting stat that can be seen from the second chart is that Android seems to attract more the young generation as compared to both RIM and Apple.

good review! According to ABI Research, smartphones made up 19% of all handsets shipped in the second quarter; that represents a 12% increase over the first quarter, and a 50% jump compared to the same quarter in 2010 more at http://www.mobile10.org/?page_id=261
