With Windows Vista and 7 Microsoft has introduced and shiny new version of the Movie Maker (ships with Windows Live Tools) that has an improved GUI, simpler design. In other words it is easier to use for the new people. However, in the process Microsoft has stripped some critical features from the software in favor of simplicity. This is a move which many old users of Windows Movie Maker didn’t like. Some of the features that were removed include timeline and audio edits along with the ability to overlay text on a video.
If you are one of those users and missing some important feature from the older version 2.6 of the Movie Maker then you can simply download it directly from the MS website and install it. It should be installable both on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
