Honeycomb (Android 3.0) is specially designed for android tablets with extraordinary features making it the best operating system for tablets. While we are waiting for the official release of the android 3.0 tablets, you can hack your Nook color to make it Android Honeycomb 3.0 powerful tablet. You can buy Nook Color for $200 only using coupon code available on the internet (just google it to find the coupon). In my previous guide I showed how to run Honeycomb on Nook Color using windows operating system. In this guide I will show you how to run Honeycomb 3.0 using Mac.

Requirement

-Nook Color

-4gb or larger capacity SD card

-USB SD card reader

-Virtual Image of HoneyComb for Nook color device

Step 1: Launch terminal window and locate your SD card drive. You can do that by typing the “diskutil list” command in terminal window. Please be cautious in doing so and make sure that you choose the right SD card drive.

Step 2:  In this step you need to unmount the SD card drive. To do that you need to type the following command in the terminal window “diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk#”. In this command replace the # sign with the disk number of the drive. Your terminal window should prompt “Unmount of all volumes on disk was successful”

Step 3: Now you will type the command to write the Virtual Image of HoneyComb for Nook color device on your SD card. Type “dd if=nookhoney04.img of=/dev/rdisk# bs=1m” in the terminal window replacing the # sign with the disk number of the drive. Wait for about 10 minutes and  Virtual Image of HoneyComb for Nook Color will be written on your SD card.

Step 4: Safely remove the SD card from the computer. Now, Power off your Nook Color and slide the SD card into the Nook. Turn on your Nook Color and it should load HoneyComb 3.0.

Now you can use Nook Color as Android Honeycomb 3.0 powerful tablet.

this looks great. I am going to try it. I downloaded the image and have a 4G sd card, so I am ready as soon as I get my nerve up. I have an iphone but want to try android and this seemed like a great way without buying a droid phone. Will I be able to go back to just being a nookcolor again?

Hi! Please help. I’m a novice, and got as far as the “dd if=nookhoney04.img of=/dev/rdisk# bs=1m” substituting the drive number for the #. My Mac’s response is “No such file or directory” despite repeated attempts. Suggestions? Thank you!
    Mary

Hi, again. Notes to geeks: It seems that different sites recommend slightly different codes. Specifically–and surprisingly– the number before the .img varies from 01 to 04. Anyway, I’ll appreciate any guidance you can provide.

A couple of points for those new to this (especially those getting the file not found/no such directory):

    1) The image you download is zipped, you need to unzip it first so you’re left with the file nookhoney04.img
    2) When you first run terminal, make sure you’re in the same directory as the file nookhoney04.img (note: If you’re downloading to the default download folder on a mac, when you run terminal just type “cd downloads”, without quotes)

Thank you very much for this excellent writeup. Got it installed and works great.

    I bought 2 micro SD card -
    Lexar 8GB Class 4
    Wintec 8GB Class 6

Much faster with the Class 6 card. I heard that people are having problems with Class 10 cards.

Thanks again, and also to the people who worked so hard to make all this possible.
