We all know that Motorola’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb based powerhouse that we call Xoom is already very powerful, and as the Android based tablets go these days – this is the best you can get at this time. But this didn’t stop talented people at XDA forums to achieve more from the device. coolbho3000 from xda-developers forum have come up with a modified kernel that overclocks the Motorola Xoom 1GHz dual core Tegra 2 processor to 1.5 GHz! This really bumps up the performance figures of the device compared to a stock device. In fact, according to his benchmarks results are even better then the Tegra 2 3D!

Best of all, it is not that much difficult to add this overclocking hack to your Motorola Xoom device. Just follow our simple step-by-step guide:

*Please do not flash this on the Wi-Fi only Xoom.

*Caution: Please note that we are NOT responsible if you end up bricking your device or make it unusable in any other way. So, proceed at your own responsibility!


  • You need the Fastboot binary on your path (which is part of the Android SDK that you can get here).
  • You also need to have functioning ADB on your computer.


Step 1. First of all you need to unlock your Motorola Xoom’s bootloader for flashing first. I you haven’t then follow our guide for this.

Step 2. Now you need to root the device. For that follow this guide that have written before.
Step 3. Now download this zip file that includes the required boot.img with the overclocked kernel and a corresponding wifi module: http://www.setcpu.com/files/xoom_ocboot_v2.zip.
Step 4. Reboot into the bootloader by by entering the following command:
adb reboot bootloader
Step 5. Flash the boot image to your boot partition, then boot back into Android by running:
fastboot flash boot xoom_ocboot.img
fastboot reboot
Step 6. Now push the bcm4329.ko to your /system/lib/modules folder and reboot to re-enable wifi.
adb remount
adb push bcm4329.ko /system/lib/modules/bcm4329.ko
adb reboot
Step 7: You are done. Enjoy!
