nook color honeycomb | How to Dual Boot Android 3.0 Honeycomb & Phiremod v6.1 (CyanogenMod 7 / Gingerbread) From SDCard On Nook Color ? [Guide]

We have already written detailed guide on how you can run Android 3.0 Honeycomb from the SD card on your Nook Color. Advantage that you get from this kind of setup is you have all the honeycomb goodness while still completely avoiding any changes to the device (eMMC). So, in this manner you will not void your warranty (although it is not that difficult to reset Nookcolor to factory default settings anyway). More recently, we had published a detailed guide on the installation of Phiremod v6.2 on eMMC (internal memory of Nook). In my opinion Phiremod is THE best in terms of latest features and customization you can get for your Nook Color, as it contains the best bits from the CyanogenMod 7 (CM7) and adds it’s own, which in itself is based on the Google Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Only thing that might be an issue is that since Phiremod was installed on the internal memory in our guide, as result your Nook Color no longer remains untouched. Although, personally I don’t take it as an issue because B&N stock OS is a mess anyway, but I understand some people might not be comfortable with that.

OK, this preface leads us the subject of this post, which is to tell you a secret to get the best of both worlds (THE Solution)! What about the prospects of using Android Honeycomb and Phiremod v6.1 both available from the SD card without touching you stock Nook device! Sounds cool! right? – this guide will teach you how to do that. All the credit goes to the XDA member racks11479 who brought us this possibility to get the best OS’s for the Nook Color in the form of Honeycomb & Phiremod, and even better both bootable from an SD card without touching the actual device.

So enough for the description, let’s get started!

Note: Rooting, Jailbreaking or customizing your device can be risky, and you may end-up bricking your device! Follow the instructions posted here at your own responsibility as Inspired Geek will not be responsible for any damage to your device.

How to Boot Phiremod and Honeycomb?

After burning the image power off your nook color and place the sdcard in the device.
- To boot into Phiremod Nook v6.1 just power on your nook with the sdcard in.

Any idea where to find information on how to dual boot windows 7 and android on a laptop?
Thought it would be easier to find.

    • CSJ

Who told you you could run Android OS on a laptop?

      • Tigra 07

Well there’s a few sources for it but none appear to be very good.
As far as i can see there’s a few people running Android but without most of the hardware working.

great guide – is it possible to create additional images such as this one with updated Phiremod (6.3) instead of the 6.1?

  • Andrew Zar

I love booting off the SD card. My only problem is that I am so limited on space. Although my SD card is 32 GB, I can only use 1 GB or so because all the images ignore 28 GB of my card. That is rough, is there a such a thing as a bootable Honeycomb SD image that is 16GB or 32GB?

Decent article, but some help would be nice, even if you told us which forum we should go to.

I have a similar problem with hanging, but only on Phiremod.

Additionally need to find out how to add update zip to 8gb card that says I need more room.

PS Using Nook Color 1.2 (Blue dot)

Also, I HIGHLY recommend the free MessagEase keyboard.

  • Randy

It works except I can’t get any video to play (Youtube, etc.) in either Phiremod or Honeycomb.
