Backup/Restore Your Cydia Apps, Settings & Sources Using xBackup [Jailbreak Tweak]

If you have jailbroken your iPhone/iPad etc. then it is very likely that you have installed many Cydia tweaks, skins and may be added some custom repo sources as well. There can be a lot of customizations that avid jailbreakers might be employing after jailbreaking their iDevices. Problem is that after you restore iOS through iTunes you are going to loose everything coming though Cydia. Basically after restoration you will be starting from scratch again! There are some Cydia applications that allow to avoid this problem by allowing some restoration of jailbreak/Cydia applications after you restore your device, for example we covered in the past Apt Backup and PKG Backup. PKG Backup I think is the most powerful one for these backup and restoration tasks but it might be expensive for some users.

So, today we came with another option for you to back the Cydia applications, settings, sources etc., so that you can restore at a later date if needed. The application I am talking about is called xBackup and available for only $1.50 from Cydia (BigBoss repo). Application itself is very straight forward to use there is a backup button to backup the current Cydia data. Next time you sync with the iTunes, this data will also be copied to the computer. After you restore your device, just sync with the iTunes so to copy back the back the backup data and install the xBackup application from Cydia again and hit the restore and there you go…

In case you don’t want to sync with iTunes upload your backup to xBackup server where your backup can sit safely until you need to restore then just tap the download button and your backup will be downloaded back to your device. Useful when you do not want to do a restore from backup in iTunes.
