Jailbreak iOS 5 & Preserve Baseband For iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad 1 Using Sn0wbreeze 2.8 – [Windows]

It’s been just few days after the release of the iOS 5, and already new tools to jailbreak the iOS 5 are starting to roll out. Today, ih8sn0w  has released the Sn0wbreeze 2.8 for Windows users and here we present you a guide on how to use it to jailbreak your iDevice with iOS 5 installed on it! Earlier, we bought you a guide on How to Install iOS 5 Beta on the iPhone Without Any Apple Dev Account! Only days after, iPhone Dev-Team was not only able to jailbreak the iOS 5 on the iDevices and demonstrate it on the iPod Touch 4th Gen, but they also released an updated version of the Redsn0w 0.9.8, that allows to everyone to jailbreak their iDevice on iOS 5! And we brought you a step-by-step guide to achieve the jailbreak of iOS 5 on your iDevice. We also have a guide for jailbreaking for iOS 5 on windows using Redsn0w here that we posted earlier today.

Please make note of the following before proceeding any further:

* THIS IS INTENDED FOR DEVELOPERS ONLY!!!
* This sn0wbreeze does NOT add afc2 or Hacktivate to prevent users from removing the UDID check after jailbreak.
* UNLOCKERS SHOULD STAY AWAY!!!
* This is a /TETHERED/ jailbreak via iBooty.

Following devices are supported in this version of the Sn0wbreeze:

• iPhone 3GS
• iPhone 4 [GSM]
• iPhone 4 [CDMA]
• iPod Touch 3G
• iPod Touch 4
• iPad 1G

Programs required:

• Sn0wbreeze 2.8b1 (Windows)
• Access to stock iOS 5 firmware (you can download it from the Apple iOS dev center)
• iTunes 10.5 beta (it can be downloaded from Apple iOS dev center)

Here is the guide on the usage of the Sn0wbreeze 2.8:

Step 1: Download the Sn0wbreeze 2.8 software.

Step 2: Download stock iOS 5 FW for your device.

Step 3: Connect your iDevice device to the computer.

Step 4: Now launch the Sn0wbreeze and you will see a splash screen. There will be a credits dialog that will appear, just close this. Now skip the current screen  by pressing the blue arrow at the bottom.

Step 5: Now it will prompt you to select the stock iOS 5 FW that you have downloaded in the Step 2.

Now browse and select that as shown below:

In case you have iPhone 3GS it will ask to choose the appropriate option. If you are not sure then you can also use the detection mode (see screenshot below).

Now the stock iOS 5 FW that you provided will be verified.

Step 6: Next it will present you with a choice either to choose a Simple or an Expert mode. Choose the Expert mode here and continue. If you are relying on an unlock use the baseband preservation mode.

Step 7: Now there is an opportunity to customize the FW. So just click on the General and on the blue arrow to continue to the next screen.

Step 8: On the screen that appears you have a choice of installing a number of tweaks such as animated bootlogos, openSSH installation, native backgrounding support, user wallpaper and battery percentage etc. After you are done press the blue arrow to continue. Don’t forget to check the activate iPhone option if you are relying on a carrier unlock for your iPhone!

Step 9: Now Sn0wbreeze will create the custom FW based on the choices that you made. It takes some time so be patient! You don’t need to do anything here.

Once the firmware is ready you will have a Done! message appearing on the screen as show below:

Step 10: Now firmware is ready but you need to put your device in DFU mode. Follow the on screen instructions to do so.

Step 11: Now launch the iTunes and it will tell you that it found a device in recovery mode. Press ok.

Step 12: Now in the iTunes hold down the Shift key and press the Restore button and iTunes will initiate the installation process for the custom iOS 5 FW that you have just cooked. It will take some time – wait for this.

Step 13: Now finally you are DONE! Enjoy tethered jailbreak iOS 5 on your iDevice!

 

Tethered Booting Guide

Since this is a tethered JB so in order to boot into tethered boot mode, you will use iBooty 2.2 utility which is put on your desktop by Sn0wbreeze 2.8.

Step 1: Execute the iBooty.exe file and wait for disclaimer to disappear on screen.

Step 2: Now select your Device from drop down menu. Click on Start and follow on screen instructions on how to put your device in a DFU mode.

Step 3: After your device is in DFU mode iBooty will start uploading payload.

Step 4: iBooty will display done message upload successful boot. That’s all and your jailbroken device on iOS 5 can boot into tethered boot mode ready for use!
