We have already reported about a number of new widgets for the iOS 5 Notification Center in the last couple of days namely the UISettings, WeeTwitter and WidgetTask to name a few. Now there is another one that joins the party called RSSWidget. As its name implies it allows you to easily access the latest RSS news from your favorite RSS subscribed websites right from with in the iOS 5 Notification Centre. No need to launch a dedicated app just to have a quick glance at the latest tech news of your interest for example. It seems that RSSWidget can get the latest RSS updates in real-time.
In order to use RSSWidget you need to download it from the Cydia using the developer’s repo which has the following URL http://qwertyoruiop.com/beta. You will need to add this to your sources. At the time of this writing this app is still rough around the edges. For example, if you want to add new RSS feed sources to need to hack into the / System “/ Library / WeeAppPlugins / RSSWidget.bundle /” folder on your iDevice and then open the file “com.idevhaice.rsswidget.plist” and add the RSS sources there in specific format (see the picture below). Of course, you can use any of your favorite SSH clients to do so. We hope that this application will develops further in a more refined shape as iOS 5 public release draws nearby.
Please note that you must have jailbroken iDevice on new iOS 5 beta for this tweak to work! Follow any of the following guides to do so:
