Its been a couple of days since the Skype 2 have been available for the Android based devices. There are some minor enhancements here & there, but the most important and exciting new feature for many users has been the video calling support. Unfortunately, in the current version of Skype available in the Market this video calling feature has been limited to only a handful of devices. This has shocked many potential users. These are the devices that are officially supported by this new version of the Skype:
- Google Nexus S
- HTC Desire S
- Sony Ericsson Xperia neo
- Sony Ericsson Xperia pro
This is really a short list of devices that are supported for the video calling! Some of the newer devices that are extremely potent and shouldn’t have any trouble handling the video calling feature are surprisingly missing. Fortunately for us there is an active community of developers and modder’s that is always there to help. An XDA forum member pulser_g2 has managed to hack and modify the original application and add support for our beloved and best Android phone out there namely Samsung Galaxy S2 (SII). This modified version of the Skype 2 APK file can be downloaded from here. Furthermore, developer notes that it may also work with other device as well. For example, it has been confirmed to work with EVO 4G until now. Please note that you should uninstall the original unmodified Skype version first and then install this version.
