MIUI is a customized version of the Android, developed originally by some Chinese developers aimed at the Chinese market. Originally it was only available for a handful of devices including the HTC Desire, but since then has been ported to many more with the English translated versions. It has been available both in Froyo (Android 2.2) and Gingerbread (Android 2.3) flavors. From the last few months interest in this heavily customized build of Android has grown considerably. Now there are ports available for many popular device including HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD, Motorola Droid, HTC HD2, HTC DesireZ, Samsung Galaxy S. One of the main reasons I think for its popularity is the interface speed which is smooth in transitions and fluid. Other reason and the major one is of course the striking GUI resemblance to the wildly popular Apple iOS , particularly the springboard part and some other GUI tweaks.

You know that Nook Color is one of our all time favorite Android devices and a large collection of rooting, custom ROM installation guides and tips&tricks in the Nook Color section are a proof of this! Recently an XDA forum member named andmer has managed to port this popular MIUI ROM to the NC and according to the comments by the users at the original thread, it seems to work pretty well. Current version of this MIUI port for the NC stands at MIUI 1.7.15 and is based on the latest Android 2.3.4.
Here are the changes in this MIUI port for the Nook Color as provided by the developer:
- MIUI App Sharing
- MIUI OTA Updater
- MIUI Bootscreen
- SIM Toolkit
- Custom Bootscreen
- English Translations
- Google Maps
- Google Voice Search
- MIUI.us Forum app
This ROM requires flashing from ClockworkMod recovery menu (CWM) and as a result it must be already in place. There are many ways to do it but a simpler method I think is to use the Auto Nooter. For that follow our earlier guide.
Navigation in ClockworkMod Recovery
- Use the Volume Up to move the selector up a row.
- Use the Volume Down to move the selector down a row.
- Using "N" button – selects the current item.
- Use Power – to go back to the parent menu.
Note: Please make sure that your Nook battery is charged to 100% before flashing otherwise you might get a short battery span after flashing the Phiremod v6!
Once the CWM is setup then follow these steps:
Step 1: Download & copy the MIUI ROM to the root of your SD card.
Step 2: Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery mode for nook from Rom Manager installed on your Nook Color. Incase it is not installed or you don’t know how to do it follow our guide on how to get in to recovery mode on your Nook Color.
Step 3: Wipe system and data:
– Select "Mounts and storage".
– Select "format system".
– Select "format data".
Step 4: Now flash MIUI ROM. Select and confirm (using N) these items:
– "install zip from sdcard".
– "choose zip from sdcard".
– Select the zip file of ROM.
– Once complete, reboot and Enjoy!
