CyanogenMod 7 is one of the most popular custom ROMs available on Android devices. It is based on the latest build of Android 2.3 Gingerbread. According to official site, it supports a variety of new features including improved appearance, revamped and customizable lock screen, a restyled music app, “phone goggles” (which we assume means Google googles), gesture support everywhere and so on. Earlier, we reported that Android 2.3.4 Based CyanogenMod 7 Nightlies Rolling Out For Samsung Galaxy S i9000. We also reported thatan XDA member has started development on a port of the CyanogenMod 7 for the Samsung Galaxy S2 (SII). Samsung Galaxy S2 (SII) users were anticipating for this quite some time and now the early nightly builds of the CM7 for our beloved device are now available!
Note: Rooting, Jailbreaking or customizing your device can be risky, and you may end-up bricking your device! Follow the instructions posted here at your own responsibility as InspiredGeek will not be responsible for any damage to your device.
Please note that these are very early builds and more aimed as a proof of concept rather for a daily usage. There are a number of important functions broken in the current builds as noted by the developer:
Video playback – many formats are not recognized
Video recording – especially HD
Vibration and haptic feedback can be better
Some users lose network connection after sending a SMS (all on T-Mobile Austria it seems?)
Some users report photos on the external SD-card seem to get deleted
Issues when using the 2G/3G-Switch, which can only be solved by a wipe and reflash
Overheating problems, caused by some misbehaving app, most probably Mediascanner/DRM
Media volumes (volume in general maybe)
USB host mode
Easiest way to install the nightly builds is through the ROM Manager as recommended by the developer himself as well. Here are the instructions for this method as provided by the developer:
