In the last couple of days you might have heard a lot of noise about the news that HP TouchPad is being discontinued. In other words, end of anything based on webOS from HP! It resulted in an unbelievable fire sale of the HP TouchPad tablet for mere $99! This is an amazing price for even a mediocre level tablet let alone a tablet as powerful as HP TouchPad. For the interested readers, HP TouchPad supports a powerful dual core Snapdragon S3 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 16 GB or 32GB internal memory, a 1.3 MP camera, Adreno 220 based graphics. What more you can ask for from a tablet that is selling for a mere $99 on sale.
As you might expect it was bound to happen and there are already developers there that plan to migrate the Google Android on the HP TouchPad to match the powerful tablet hardware with the best mobile OS that we currently have available. One of the groups that have come forward is promising to bring the Android Gingerbread to the device via the TouchDroid project and later one shifting to the CM7 codebase. Honeycomb port is not a possibility as source code for that particular version of the OS is not released by Google. Its also planned that project will bring the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) Android 4.0 on the platform once its released by Google. At least, these are the plans of the team for now. Lets hope that TouchDroid project can deliver on its tough promises.
