images | ‘Jelly Bean’ is The Successor of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) ?As we mentioned in some of our earlier articles that Android Ice Cream Sandwich release seems rather close before the year end. Most likely the Samsung Nexus Prime will be the first device that will carry this OS. For those who don’t know Ice Cream Sandwich is the code name of the next version of the Android which according to Google it is expected to unify the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) for smartphones, and Honeycomb for tablets under one umbrella to avoid the Android segmentation. Exact feature-set of the Ice Cream Sandwich is still unknown. Even there is not any finalized version numbering scheme for it. Ice Cream Sandwich release might be tagged as Android 4.0, but its possible that Google decides to still keep it in the Android 3.x realm.

Even though the Ice Cream Sandwich is not released yet, but there are already talks about the next version of the Google Android OS. Thisismynext has reported that Android version after ICS will be most probably called  ‘Jelly Bean’. This is because of the fact that Google is in the habit of naming the upcoming Android version on the names of dessert. And assumption is that there are not many desserts that start with “J” so Google might very well go with this name. Furthermore, its being reported that ‘Jelly Bean’ will include some “Game Changing” features in the mobile arena. Although, this is a very general claim, and its near impossible to anticipate at this time that what features it might bring to the table. As for the version numbering again there are doubts that what versioning scheme will be chosen by Google for the ‘Jelly Bean’. This is in particular, because the versioning scheme for the Ice Cream Sandwich has not been finalized yet by Google either. Stay tuned for more updates on this!
