Yesterday, we brought you an update about the possible release of the Tegra 3 (Kal-El) quad-core monster latter this year in some Android tablets most likely during holiday season. While the Tegra 3 will debut in the Android smartphones probably in the first quarter of 2012. But if we look beyond the Tegra 3 (Kal-El) release schedule it looks NVIDIA has updated the plans. This is because Wayne the successor to the Kal-El SoC has been pushed to the late 2012 release, or may even be released in the start of 2013. It happened because NVIDIA will now have another entry in the mobile SoC market in the form of Kal-El+ in the middle 2012 to fill the void. While Grey the successor to the Wayne will enter the market at sometime in 2013. A notable property of the Grey is that it will ship with the integrated Icera 3G/4G baseband targeted specifically at the Windows and Windows Phone platforms.

For the interested readers, details are a bit sketchy about any of these upcoming processors from NVIDIA, but anyhow here is what we know so far (source: Wikipedia)":
Tegra 3 (Kal-El)
Processor: Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore, up to 1.5 GHz
12-Core Nvidia GPU with support for 3D stereo
Ultra Low Power GPU mode
40 nm by TSMC
Video output up to 2560×1600
NEON instruction sets from ARM
1080p H.264 High Profile video decode
The Kal-El chip (CPU and GPU) is to be about 5 times faster than Tegra 2
Tegra (Wayne)
Processor: Quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 MPCore
Improved GPU core
28 nm
About 10 times faster than Tegra 2
Tegra (Grey)
Processor: ARM Cortex MPCore
28 nm
Integrated Icera 3G/4G baseband
As you can see Tegra 3 (Kal-El) is expected to be 5 times faster than the current insanely popular Tegra 2 processor, while the Tegra Wayne is expected to provide a whopping 10 times performance increment as compared to the Tegra 2! Oh boy! that will really mean something for sure when Android devices based on this will ship.
