These days Windows 8 heat is all around the place on the Internet as Microsoft recently unveiled the Windows 8 developer preview build, and the availability of free download for everyone to get a personal look at the current state of the Windows 8 has worked as an icing on the cake. As you know already one of the most promoted aspects of the Windows 8 is the significantly enhanced GUI for use as a tablet OS. In particular, I am talking about the Metro interface in the Windows 8 that we have got enough of by now. Another, notable underlying feature of course is the support of the ARM processors which is clearly geared towards the support for the ever increasing population of ARM based tablets because of their suitability as being much more energy/battery efficiency.

In the light of the above, we can clearly see that Microsoft is eyeing to steal at least some pie of the huge market share that Apple holds in terms of the iPad/iPad 2. Thanks to the Microsoft efforts Windows 8 from a tablet operating system perspective is looking very promising even at this development stage. This can be clearly seen in a nice video of a head-to-head comparison of the Apple iPad with iOS 5 and a Windows 8 slate in terms key visual elements and usability factor of both tablets such as the lock screen notifications, preinstalled browser interface, searching, control panel and the main iOS springboard and Windows 8 tile-based Metro interface to launch the applications. All in all this is nice comparison to get quick glimpse what Microsoft has to offer for the tablet/slate users and also how it measure against the current standard set by the iOS 5 (on iPad).
