As we all know that iOS 5 final version is now available for grab. A lot of users might have been wondering about a number of things related to the jailbreak and unlock of the iOS 5 on their respective device such as iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPad 2, iPod Touch etc. As you might know that iOS 5 has gone through a lot of beta version iterations in many months before its release today and a jailbreak solution in the form for the tools such as RedSn0w and Sn0wBreeze has been available right from the start. As iOS 5 has gone through a number of beta cycles so does these jailbreak tools. And now the good thing is that latest versions of the RedSnOw and SnOwBreeze are compatible with the final release of the iOS 5 by Apple today! That means that you can use these tools to jailbreak iOS 5 after installing on your respective device. This has already been confirmed by prominent members of the jailbreak team such as MuscleNerd and iH8snOw via on twitter. For example here is tweet from iH8snOw – developer of the popular SnOwBreeze tool that is used to generate custom ipsw files for the iOS to preserve the baseband when jailbreaking:
However, keep in mind that both the above mentioned tools for now only support tethered jailbreak for the iOS 5. But as we reported earlier a number of exploits has been found in the iOS5 and untethered jailbreak solutions for the iOS devices are not far away. Until then we have to rely on the tethered jailbreak and incase you are wondering we already have written the step-by-step guide on the use of these tools for the iOS 5 jailbreak.
Please note that although these guide have been written for the Dev version of the iOS 5 but the procedure is exactly the same with final version of the iOS 5 that was released by Apple today. Of course, you will need to use the latest version of the iOS 5 that you can get from here for your respective device and also download the latest version of the Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze. Now for the clarification Redsn0w guide is better if you don’t care about the baseband preservation of your iPhone in other words if you are not relying on software unlock of your iPhone (or simply using iPod-Touch or iPad 1/2 etc.). But if you want to preserve the baseband of your device for the future unlock using the updated version of the Ultrasn0w then follow the Sn0wbreeze guide. You can download the latest iTunes 10.5 for the iOS 5 support from Apple for both Windows and Mac here.
