Download and Install Stock Android 4.0.3 ICS ROM On Samsung Galaxy S2 (SII) [Beta Build I9100XXLPB]

While we still wait for the official release of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for Samsung Galaxy SII, there are some pre-release versions of the firmware floating around the net. In the past we reported and presented a guide for one such leaked version of the Android 4.0.3 for the SGSII. In the past weeks there have been a number of such releases. And now the latest leak is a beta version of the Android 4.0.3 ICS ROM for Galaxy SII with the build no. I9100XXLPB. Based on the reports many of the bugs that were apparent in the earlier leaks have been fixed in this latest beta and is more or less ready for the daily usage.

Here are some user notes:

Interface: Kind of 3D effect when scrolling.
Battery: Lots better than early ones.
Faster: Feels the same as LP6
Touch: Same as LP6.
Overall: Better score in our eyes than LP6 .
Facelock: Same as LP6 working fine.
Task: Same as version LP6.

However, keep in mind that this is still a beta software and NOT comes through the official Samsung channels so use it with caution!

So after the usual word of caution lets get started on how to install this latest leaked firmware on Samsung Galaxy S2 device.

Required Downloads

- Download the ODIN file and then extract the .zip file.

- Download Android 4.0.3 ICS Beta Build I9100XXLPB and extract the contents/files of Android 4.0.3 ICS to the desktop.

– Correct KIES USB drivers must be installed, so that programs can communicate with the device. Reboot computer after driver installation if required.

- If KIES is running in the background then turn it off as it may interfere with the ODIN.

Procedure – Flash Android 4.0.3 On Samsung Galaxy SII

Step 1: Make sure that your device is in USB debugging mode: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging.
Step 2: Reboot your device into download mode. To do so: Turn the device off, then power it on again by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home + Power simultaneously.

Step 3: Start ODIN.

Step 4: Connect the device to your computer via USB.
Step 5: Wait a few seconds, the ODIN screen will show that a device is now connected
- Make sure that in ODIN nothing is checked, except the "Auto reboot" and "F. Reset Time" checkboxes.
- Press the "PDA" button, and select the the extracted tar file I9100_CODE_I9100XXLPB_CL99600_REV02_user_low_ship.tar (from extracted Download above that you placed on desktop) to flash the firmware.

- Press the "Phone" button, and select the the extracted tar file MODEM_I9100XXLPB_REV_02_CL1101286.tar (from extracted Download above that you placed on desktop) to flash the modem.

- Press the "CSC" button, and select the the extracted tar file GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXXLP5_RST.tar (from Required Downloads above) to flash the CSC.

- Press "Start".

- ODIN will now flash the above components.

- Device should reboot after flashing the Android 4.0.3 firmware components on your Samsung Galaxy SII device.

Step 6: After the device reboots you will have Ice Cream Sandwich based on Android 4.0.3 leaked beta version on your Samsung Galaxy S2 (SII)!

A lot of time has passed since Google announced its next major iteration of the Android mobile OS in the form of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) or Android 4.0 if you like to mention it in version numbering format. Afterwards since Google pushed the source code of the Android 4.0 out of the window developers from different Android handset vendors as well as members of the Android developer communities at the forums like XDA have been hard at work to port it to at least the most popular devices that are currently available. In Nov. last year we brought you a version of the Android 4.0 AOSP flavor to install on your Samsung Galaxy S which is still one of the most popular Android devices around despite its age. And it’s the one that started all the craze and is the predecessor of the insanely popular Samsung Galaxy SII that we all used to know and love. At that time the version of the Android 4.0 that we reported was still not stable and more importantly some features were missing namely – Bluetooth, GPS, camera and video recorder functionality. I recently noticed that Onecosmic’s ICS Port Android 4.0.3 RC3.1 for Samsung Galaxy is out. Since it a release code version, so its is extremely stable and feature complete version of the ICS ready to be deployed on your Samsung Galaxy S device!

Just boot in Recovery Mode and flash the attached firmware file linked above and then remember to wipe data / factory reset and Wipe cache and reboot the device to get it booted in the Android 4.0.3 ICS on your Galaxy S! We already have updated version of Redsn0w released a couple of weeks ago that allows to get untethered jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G and iPad. Latest versions of Redsn0w tool also allows to preserve the baseband of the iDevice to get unlock latter using Ultrasn0w if desired by the user. This is very important because its getting difficult to support the unlock on newer basebands. Baseband preservation mode is a features that has been traditionally associated with the windows tool called Sn0wbreeze. Which is functionally equals to the Mac exclusive PwnageTool which serves the same purpose. Now the developer iHacksn0w has updated the Sn0wbreeze in a major way and the latest version Sn0wbreeze 2.9.1 supports untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak of Apple A4 based devices namely iPad 1, iPod Touch 4G, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Procedure actually involves cooking a custom firmware using the tool and then restoring it using iTunes software on the iOS device. Jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1 Procedure

1: Unzip the internal contents of the cinject_0.4.3.zip that you downloaded on folder placed on desktop.

2: Now go to the Start menu and click on the Run.

3: Type cmd.exe in there and hit Enter.

4: Now the command prompt terminal will appear.

5: You need to navigate to the folder where internal contents of the cinject_0.4.3.zip have been extracted in Step 1 (i.e., if on desktop then type ‘cd Desktop/cinject_0.4.3′ to navigate to that directory in the command terminal).

6: Type and Execute the command: cinject.exe -i payloads/jailbreak.mobileconfig
7: Type and Execute the command: cinject.exe -j payloads
8: Type and Execute the command: cinject.exe –w

9: Go to Setting applet and toggle the VPN switch on which will results in an error being generated that you should ignore and then device will reboot after few seconds.

10: Afterwards find and tap the “Absinthe” icon that has been placed on one of your iOS device home-screens which will result in jailbreak process to get complete and reboot the device.

11: Finally observe that “Absinthe” icon on the home-screen is replaced with the Cydia icon after the jailbreak process completes!

But unfortunately at that time it wasn’t possible to jailbreak Apple A5 based newer devices such as iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1. But we were promised that in a short time A5 chip based devices will also get the same jailbreak treatment. And finally the wait is over as greenpois0n team has released a graphical tool called GreenPois0n Absinthe A5 to jailbreak Apple A5 based devices iPhone 4S and iPad 2. And the best of all this is an untethered jailbreak! Here we are going to guide you through a simple process on how to use this tool.

Please make sure that your device firmware is upgraded to stock iOS 5.0.1 in case of iPad 2 and iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1 in case of iPhone 4S. Then follow this simple to get the untethered jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 on your iPhone 4S or iPad 2. Furthermore, keep in mind that this tool only works for the Apple A5 based devices at-least for now!

Jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1 Procedure

1) Launch GreenPois0n Absinthe tool and connect your iPhone 4S/iPad 2 to Mac.

2) Now simply click the “Jailbreak” button in the Absinthe tool which will lead to fake restore and a reboot session.

3) Ignore the “Restore” prompt if it happens.

4) Wait for the Absinthe bar to get complete

5) Afterwards find and tap the “Absinthe” icon that has been placed on one of your iOS device home-screens which will result in jailbreak process to get complete and reboot the device.

6) If you receive the error "Error establishing a database connection" then close the program and try again.

7) Now observe that “Absinthe” icon on the home-screen is replaced with the Cydia icon after the jailbreak process completes!

8) Enjoy the untethered jailbreak iOS 5/iOS 5.0.1 on your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 device!

Note: If you have an issue on Step 5 and nothing happens then just go to Setting applet and toggle the VPN switch on which will results in an error being generated that you should ignore and then device will reboot after few seconds.

Install CWM on Nook Tablet

Step 1) Use a free SDCard and add a 50 MB FAT 32 partition to it after creating a MSDOS partition table. Any SDCard larger than 50MB should work. Make sure to turn-on/enable the boot and ida flags. You can add other partitions if desired but they are not necessary for this procedure. Tools like GParted or some other free partitioning tool can be used to do this.

Step 2) Download this zip file and un-zip the files at the root of your sdcard. Make sure they are at the root and not in a sub-directory.

Step 3) Eject the Sdcard from your computer.

Step 4) Turn-off your Nook Tablet and insert the Sdcard that you just created.

Step 5) Turn-on the Nook Tablet and you should be in CWM!

Step 6) (Optional) Now insert a larger SDCard in to the Nook Tablet to make a backup.

We have covered the rooting procedure for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus already in the past already but that was a bit complicated particularly for the new users (based on Odin and CF-Root Insecure Kernels). Thanks to efforts of the WugFresh who developed a tool named Galaxy Nexus Root Tool Kit that makes the rooting/un-rooting, lock/unlock bootloader on the Galaxy Nexus a child’s play using a single click. In other words, now Galaxy Nexus Tool Kit is available, so there is no excuse to not root your latest Nexus device!

Note that the latest version of this tool works for both GSM and CDMA (Verizon). Use of the Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit is very simple actually as you can see below:

Note: Do not plug in your device until this program prompts to do so!

Step 1) First download the tool depending if its for CDMA or GSM version:

Step 2) Install the program by double clicking the GnexRootToolkit.sfx.exe. Now launch the tool from the desktop or Programs menu.

Step 3) Now after the program window appears on-screen click on the Drivers+SDK to install the required drivers and Android SDK which are required for the later functionality.

Step 4) Click on the Drivers to check that all the drivers are indeed configured properly.

Step 5) (Optional) Use the "Backup Apps + Data" if you want to preserve your apps and settings to restore later.

Step 6) Then use the "Unlock" to unlock and the "Root" to root the device.

Step 7) Enjoy your unlocked and rooted device!

If you want to go back to the factory default/stock (from where you started ) then just select the "Flash stock + Unroot" and then "OEM lock" features in this order. These options can also be used if you completely bricked your device. It will bring you back to a fully locked stock factory state!
